Replacing an image with a file of the same type keeps the new image

Updating an image with a new upload_source_url through Update Image no longer deletes the new file and its thumbnails when the new file has the same type as the old one. Before this, the cleanup of the replaced file could remove the file that had just been stored at the same address, so the image's url stopped loading wherever it was used once the CDN dropped its cached copy.

Nothing changes in the request or the response. A replaced file is still removed once the new one is in place, and the image keeps the same url.

Agent examples: an agent can refresh course artwork or a lead-magnet cover in place, and every page and email that shows that image picks up the new version.
